How To - Cut Back on Alcohol

How To - Cut Back on Alcohol

The first step is simply to know how much you're drinking. It's almost certainly not what you think. Here's the scoop..

Alcohol Content of Drinks

The Standard Drink

A Standard Drink is defined as a drink that needs one hour for its alcohol content to be metabolized. That's just 18 ml of Alcohol.

So here's what you're drinking in terms of a Standard Drink..

80 Proof Liquor (40% Alcohol by volume)

“Bottle” 750ml - 17 Standard Drinks
“½ Bottle” 375ml - 8.5 Standard Drinks
“Martini” 200ml - 4.5 Standard Drinks
“Miniature” 50ml - 1.1 Standard Drinks

Wine (13% Alcohol by volume)

“Bottle” 750ml - 5.5 Standard Drinks
“½ Bottle” 375ml - 2.7 Standard Drinks
“Big Glass” (10 fluid ounces) - 2 Standard Drinks
“Standard Glass” (5 fluid ounces) - 1 Standard Drink

Beer (5% Alcohol by volume)

“Pint” (16 fluid ounces) - 1.2 Standard Drinks
“Bottle” (12 fluid ounces) - 1 Standard Drink

Notice that a 12 fluid ounce bottle of beer is a standard drink, but even a miniature of 80 proof liquor is more than one standard drink. And the big shocker - a single Martini is 4.5 standard drinks! So if you knock back just 2 Martinis you've had 9 drinks - which will take about 9 hours to get out of your system!

How To - Make a Change, with Change

How To - Make a Change, with Change

You don't have to do something big to make a change in the world. I make a small change by saving my small change. Here's how..

When I go to the Supermarket there are always people outside feeding empty cans into machines. In all types of weather. I assume this is to get the 5 cent deposit.

So I save my small change in a bowl by the front door. Every time I come home I just empty my pockets of small change and throw it the bowl.

When it's built to a decent level I pop it into a bag and give it to the folks at the supermarket crushing cans. They are always very appreciative.

Join the small change movement. Please share this!

How To - Handle Wells Fargo Bank

How To - Handle Wells Fargo Bank

Wells Fargo recently fired 5,300 employees for opening millions of accounts that customers did not need or want. If you feel you have been caught up in this situation here's how to handle it..

Do not close any accounts!
The reason is simple - the accounts should remain open so they can be investigated.

Request an investigation
Give your Branch Manager a letter requesting a back office investigation. The letter should itemize all your accounts with account type and account number. Include your address and contact information. Sign and date the letter. Keep a copy.

Be polite
Do not get combative. Remember, the vast majority of Well Fargo employees work really hard to serve their customers. Just ask for an investigation, but be firm and polite that's what you want.

How To - Sue For Asbestos Exposure

How To - Sue For Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos has been shown to cause a form of cancer called Mesothelioma and this has produced many lawsuits against manufacturers and users of asbestos. These lawsuits are personal injury lawsuits, unless the plaintiff dies, in which case they usually become wrongful death lawsuits. They are complex class action lawsuits, often involving a large number of defendants and are handled by law firms which specialize in asbestos litigation.

Mesothelioma lawyers work on a "contingency" basis - which means you don't pay any legal fees unless they win a settlement for you.

Asbestos Lawsuit FAQ
"I was exposed to asbestos over 25 years ago but only recently developed symptoms. Can I still sue?"
Yes. The litigation clock starts ticking from the date of your diagnosis, not from the date of your exposure.

"Is it expensive to hire a top asbestos law firm?"
No. It costs nothing. You only pay legal fees if your lawyer wins your case."

"What do I need in order to file a lawsuit?"
There are specific requirements.

What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a set of 6 naturally occurring silicate minerals and has been mined for over 4,000 years. The world's biggest asbestos mine was near the town of Asbestos in Quebec Canada - and this was shut down by the Canadian Government in 2012. Asbestos has been used in a large number of applications including: fire retardant coatings, concrete, bricks, pipes and fireplace cement, heat fire and acid resistant gaskets, pipe insulation, ceiling insulation, fireproof drywall, flooring, roofing, lawn furniture, and drywall joint compound.

What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops in the mesothelium, the protective lining that covers many of the internal organs of the body. The most common location for mesothelioma is the pleura (the outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it can also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the pericardium (the sac that surrounds the heart), or the tunica vaginalis (a sac that surrounds the testis).

Signs and Symptoms of Mesothelioma
Symptoms or signs of mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years (or more) after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space (pleural effusion) are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.

When was Asbestos Banned?
In 1973, the EPA banned spray-applied surfacing asbestos-containing material for fireproofing/insulating purposes.

In 1975, the EPA banned installation of asbestos pipe insulation and asbestos block insulation on facility components, such as boilers and hot water tanks, if the materials are either pre-formed (molded) and friable or wet-applied and friable after drying.

In 1978, the EPA banned spray-applied surfacing materials for purposes not already banned.

In 1977, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) banned the use of asbestos in artificial fireplace embers and wall patching compounds.

In 1989, the EPA issued a final rule under Section 6 of Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) banning most asbestos-containing products. But in 1991 this rule was overturned by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. As a result, there are still many asbestos products that are not banned.

How To - Advertise on Google

How To - Advertise on Google

Google has two advertising platforms, Google AdWords Express and Google AdWords. They may sound similar, but they're very different.

Google AdWords Express is much simpler and is designed for local businesses, so if you're a retail store with a modest budget this is the one you need. But, if you have a larger budget and want to show over a bigger geographical area and on specific keywords then use Google AdWords. Here's the scoop..

1) The "gateway" to all Google services is Google gmail, so first sign up for this and get a gmail address. This is more than just an email address, it's your "Google Account".

2) Login to your Google Account then sign up for Google "AdWords Express" and run your ads. AdWords Express

3) Login to your Google Account then sign up for Google AdWords and run your ads. Warning - AdWords is far more complex than AdWords Express and unless setup and optimized correctly it's easy to burn your budget. Hire a specialist to run AdWords ads for you. AdWords

Google advertising is pay per click (PPC) which means Google does not charge when they show your ad, they only charge when someone clicks on your ad.

FREE bonus
If you qualify as a "local business" you can list your business locations list on "Google My Business". It's totally free. This will ensure you show up on Google Maps. As far as Google is concerned a "local business" is any business where customers come to a physical location. So for example, a florist is a local business, but so is McDonalds!

How To - Optimize AdWords

How To - Optimize AdWords

There are two reasons to optimize your Google AdWords text ads - they perform better and cost less. There's a lot involved in AdWords optimization, but here are the 3 most critical points..

1) First optimize your website destination page - this is the page where people go when they click your ad. Make sure the Title Tag is focused on the page topic and contains your critical keyword. Make sure the page content focuses on just one topic and contains your critical keywords.

2) Now you're ready to optimize your ad. Make sure your critical keyword comes first in the ad headline - and put the action you want second. For example: if your want donations for cancer research a good headline is "Cancer Research - Donate". The first line of the ad (the line after the headline) should explain a bit more, and the last line of your ad should be a call to action.

3) Use a very small focused group of keywords.

Google will scan your ad and the destination page on your website in order to measure "quality" - and that is a key factor in ad rank.

How to - Understand Hydrogen Cars

How to - Understand Hydrogen Cars

Hydrogen cars are very different from all other cars (gasoline, battery, hybrid). Here's how they work..

A hydrogen car is a 100% electric car, but instead of a battery it uses hydrogen fuel cells. These are simple, feed them hydrogen gas and they will constantly generate electricity. They are like a battery that never need recharging. There is no combustion, nothing burns, hydrogen gas is simply fed to the fuel cells to produce electricity.

So where do we get the hydrogen? The cars carry high pressure tanks of hydrogen gas to supply their fuel cells. The tanks get refilled at a hydrogen gas station, and the filling process is very similar to regular gas filling. The hydrogen gas station produces its hydrogen on the spot. How? By electrolysis of water.

Yes, the raw material to generate hydrogen gas is water!

So, the hydrogen gas station makes hydrogen from water. Cars refill their hydrogen tanks. The hydrogen goes through the car's fuel cells to generate the electricity that drives the car. And the exhaust? The car's exhaust is water vapor! Zero pollution.

The whole thing is a water to water cycle!

The range of a hydrogen car is about the same as a gasoline car, and the refueling time is about the same.

Also, hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. So I doubt we'll run out!

How To - Optimize your LinkedIn Profile for a Job Search

How To - Optimize your LinkedIn Profile for a Job Search

Here's how to optimize your LinkedIn profile so recruiters will find..

The critical steps..

Find some keywords
Find keywords that describe your skills and the job you’re looking for. These can be from a job description or from your resume. These are the keywords that a hiring manager would use when they search on LinkedIn for candidates. We’re going to make sure the candidate they find is you! This is a very important step, so take some time to find the right keywords. You don’t need many, 4 or 5 is plenty.

Check your position in searches
Search on each of your keywords on LinkedIn and see if you show up at the top. Chances are you don’t. So here’s how you fix that..

Edit your Profile
Make these important changes..

Photo
The photo should be you only, it should be an up-close head and shoulders shot. Make sure you’re dressed appropriately and smile.

Headline
This is the text immediately below your name. Write a short headline that contains your keywords. Keep it factual and do NOT mention you’re looking for a job.

Location
This is immediately below the headline. Complete it accurately, and also add the “industry” field with the industry you’re interested in.

Summary
Complete this with a description of your experience and skills. Keep it SHORT, but be sure to use your keywords, and do NOT mention you’re looking for a job.

Education
Complete this accurately.

Skills
This is important because this is the place people will endorse you, and endorsements look good. Just list a few skills, and make sure you include your keywords.

Experience
List the jobs you’ve held. Keep it accurate. This is NOT a copy of your resume, it’s very different. Make sure the title of each experience contains your keywords, you’ll probably need to write new keyword rich titles. Keep the job description SHORT and keyword rich, and stress any achievements. Do NOT just copy this from your resume. It needs to be MUCH shorter.

Projects
This section is critical for boosting you to the top of LinkedIn searches! A “project” is any piece of work you’ve done no matter how long it took - it may have been only a few hours. You should be able to think of several projects. You’re going to need a few. Now add each project. The title should be keyword rich using your list of keywords. The description of each project should be SHORT but accurate, stressing your skills, and of course including your keywords.

Re-check your position in searches
Now do a LinkedIn search on each of your keywords again. You should see yourself ranking higher. But if you don’t the solution is easy - just add more Projects until you see yourself show up. The Projects section is the key!

Build your network
Use all the resources LinkedIn provides to build your network. Also become active by joining some groups that are relevant to your field - and then contribute comments and posts to the group. People will spot you and send invites to connect - accept them. Search and find a few headhunters in your field and send them invites to connect! If you want to build your network FAST send me an invite to connect - I have a massive LinkedIn Network which will then become part of yours. Here’s my LinkedIn Profile where you can invite me to connect.

I just submitted my idea for a new type of wheelchair using a hand drawn sketch. The whole submission process took me 5 minutes.

How To - Pick A Domain Name

How To - Pick A Domain Name

If you're a global brand then your domain name should be your company name. But for most of us this is not the case. So..

Pick a keyword phrase that's valuable to your business. It might be the name of a product or service, or an industry term, or whatever. One keyword phrase is all you need, but consider it carefully.

Now register it as a domain name. Of course, there's a good chance it's taken. No problem, just register a minor variation that does not introduce any new keywords. For example, if you serve a local market then append your city name to the keyword. Or you could add hyphens between the words. Keywords in domain names help both SEO and SEM. Google likes them!
